Claire runs a six-person accounting firm, around fifteen new clients a month. Claire is a fictional character, but her obligation is very real, and her bill is computed on our real pricing.

Regulated like a bank, equipped with a photocopier

Accountants, auditors, lawyers, notaries, estate agents: European anti-money-laundering rules make them obliged entities, with a duty to identify each client and verify their identity when the business relationship starts. In practice, in most firms, that verification is a photocopy of an ID card filed away: it does not detect a decent fake, and it creates a sensitive document to keep for years, with the GDPR duties that come with it.

What the European wallet changes

The wallet's identity is issued by the state and cryptographically signed: verifying it takes a few seconds and leaves no photocopy behind. The 2024 European anti-money-laundering regulation explicitly recognises the wallet as a means of identity verification for onboarding: the photocopy is yesterday's default, not tomorrow's reference.

On the firm's side, the tooling fits in a link: before the first meeting, the client receives a verification link (the Todis hosted page), approves in their wallet the request for the four useful attributes (family name, given name, birth date, nationality), and the firm retrieves the verified values to record in its vigilance file. Nothing to install, nothing to store, and the result stands up: a state signature, not a printout.

The bill, precisely

Fifteen onboardings a month, at two billed calls each (create the journey, confirm the result), make 360 requests a year: three Starter blocks of 125 requests, €30 a year, with no subscription. A block only depletes with use; a smaller firm drops to €10.

ApproachCost for 180 cases/yearWhat it leaves the firm
Photocopy on fileno visible costno proof of authenticity, sensitive documents to keep
Outsourced document check~€270 (~€1.50 per case)an image analysis, delays
Todis, Starter blocks€30cryptographically verified attributes, nothing to store

About ten times cheaper than document checks, at the price of an office supplies line: onboarding vigilance stops being a trade-off.

What about the timeline?

Same transparency as usual: wallets reach clients' hands through late 2026 and 2027, and relying party registries open on December 24, 2026. A firm that puts the verification link into its intake journey now, tested against the European reference ecosystem, will have the simplest vigilance in its profession the moment every client carries a wallet.
